Merimbula Jazz Festival

Held over the June long weekend, the Merimbula Jazz Festival is Australia’s longest-running jazz festival. Since 1981 it has brought musicians and audiences together in a relaxed seaside setting, with around 100 bands performing across multiple venues within easy walking distance.

The program spans a wide range of jazz styles including traditional, swing, big band, funk, fusion and contemporary jazz, creating a vibrant and inclusive festival atmosphere for all ages.

Official Festival Opening

The Official Opening marks the start of the festival weekend and sets the tone for days of live music, dancing and connection. Musicians, locals and visitors gather to celebrate the beginning of the festival, with performances and a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the strong community spirit at the heart of Merimbula Jazz.

Mass in Blue (Jazz Mass)

Mass in Blue is a much-loved and distinctive feature of the festival. Performed by the 30-strong Llewellyn Choir with a jazz band, this service blends traditional liturgy with jazz, gospel and blues influences. It offers a reflective and uplifting experience and has become a highlight for many festival-goers.

Royal Australian Navy Big Band Youth Workshop

This workshop provides young musicians with a rare opportunity to learn from members of the Royal Australian Navy Big Band. Participants rehearse, develop skills and gain insight into ensemble performance, making it a valuable educational experience and an important part of the festival’s commitment to supporting emerging talent.

Jazz Quest

Jazz Quest is a showcase and competition that highlights up-and-coming jazz musicians. Supported by Bendigo Community Bank, Pambula and Bega branches, the event gives performers the chance to present their work to audiences and judges, with prize money and recognition on offer. It plays a key role in nurturing the next generation of jazz artists.

Ecumenical Service

The Ecumenical Service brings together music, reflection and community on the Sunday morning of the festival. Featuring jazz and gospel performances, the service is open to all and offers a quieter, contemplative moment within the busy festival program.

The Jazz Party at Club Sapphire

The Jazz Party at Club Sapphire is a relaxed and social way to round out the festival. Musicians and audiences come together for an afternoon of live music, dancing and celebration, extending the festival spirit and providing a fitting conclusion to the long weekend.
