The Merimbula Lakeside Lantern Walk is a beautiful free family friendly event held on Saturday afternoon during the Merimbula Jazz Festival.
In 2022 over a thousand people came together and walked in harmony with their lanterns from Spencer Park, down Beach Street alongside picturesque Merimbula Lake towards Twyford Hall. Come and be part of this year’s event and transform a winter’s night into a spectacle of light and music.

Create your own individual lantern or get a team together! Rope the whole family in! Build a lantern which represents your social/community group or cultural background. Local teachers & educators are encouraged to run classes in lantern-making for their students. Lanterns can be of any size or shape, from small hand-held lanterns to large lanterns jointly carried by a group of people. Use readily available materials like cardboard, paper, cellophane, wax paper, or recycled materials to create your lantern. Lanterns must be powered by LED light; no naked flames please.
Saturday 8 June
Assemble at 5pm at Spencer Park, Main Street, Merimbula.
Walk begins at 5.30pm. Lantern holders slowly make their way on the footpath from Spencer Park, down Main Street into Beach Street, along the lakeside. The Walk ends near Twyford Hall. Lantern holders pour into Market Street where StreetFest will be in full swing with live music, food and beverage stalls. Enjoy the StreetFest delights, go out to dinner, or head to one of the Merimbula Jazz Festival venues to enjoy the jazz!
