The Merimbula Lakeside Lantern Walk is a beautiful free family friendly event held on Saturday afternoon during the Merimbula Jazz Festival.
Each year hundreds of people join the Lantern Walk to walk in harmony with their lanterns from Spencer Park, down Beach Street alongside picturesque Merimbula Lake towards Twyford Hall. Come and be part of this year’s event and transform a winter’s night into a spectacle of light and music.
Make your lantern at one of these free workshops
In collaboration with Merimbula Lakeside Lantern Walk in June, Bega Valley Shire Council invites children and their families to come and make a beautiful lantern at the Tura Marrang Library. Choose from the beautiful designs or create something from scratch. Let your creativity glow!
There are three free sessions but BOOKINGS ARE REQUIRED.
Create your own individual lantern or get a team together! Rope the whole family in! Build a lantern which represents your social/community group or cultural background. Local teachers & educators are encouraged to run classes in lantern-making for their students. Lanterns can be of any size or shape, from small hand-held lanterns to large lanterns jointly carried by a group of people. Use readily available materials like cardboard, paper, cellophane, wax paper, or recycled materials to create your lantern. Check out the Merimbula Lakeside Lantern Walk Facebook page for inspiration.
Lanterns must be powered by LED light; no naked flames please.
